TIME IS RUNNING OUT!
Every month, ACRIB will be updating this list of key dates as the F Gas Regulation comes into force.
From
10th July 2006
UK Ozone Depleting Substances Regulation (Statutory Instrument 20061510) requires anyone handling Ozone Depleting Substances (eg R22 and drop ins) to have a minimum qualification – with an exemption for existing workers to gain their qualification by
9th April 2007.
9th April 2007
Existing workers handling R22 refrigerants must have gained a recognised safe handling qualification by this date.
4th July 2007
Under the F Gas Regulation:
-
Anyone involved in recovery of HFC refrigerant to be certified as competent
-
Operators legally obliged to prevent HFC leakage and repair leaks as soon as possible
-
Systems within the scope of the regulation are subject to regular inspection
-
Systems with a charge of over 300kgs need leak detectors, maintain records on quantity and type of refrigerant used including additions and recovery
-
Products containing HFC will have to be appropriately labelled
-
Non refillable containers of HFCs to be banned
4th July 2008
Under the F Gas Regulation:
-
It will be an offence to handle HFCs unless personnel are suitably certified
-
Detailed records of applications within the scope of the regulation to be kept
4th July 2009

Only companies with certified personnel can purchase HFCs
1st January 2010

Ban on use of virgin HCFCs (R22 and drop ins)
1st January 2015
-
Ban on the use of all HCFCs, including recycled materials
The new qualification, The Certificate in Mobile Air Conditioning Systems (5101) consists of 3 units which are separately certified and thus can be taken individually.
Completing the 3 units below is required for the full qualification.

Most importantly Unit 301 has been designed to meet the criteria of the pending European legislation.
